- Resolution: 300 DPI for standard prints; 600 DPI only for prints smaller than 3×3 inches.
- Colour mode: 24-bit RGB Colour — always, even for black-and-white prints (preserves warm/cool toning).
- File format: JPEG at 90×95% quality for speed, or TIFF for lossless archival masters.
- Auto-crop and auto-exposure: OFF. You need the raw, full-bed scan for PhotoSplit Studio to work correctly.
- Dust and scratch removal: OFF for colour prints (it blurs edges and confuses the detection algorithm).

The Efficient Scanning Loop
Experienced photo digitizers develop a rhythm that processes a full shoebox in 3×4 hours. Here is the loop:
