How to Take a Good Passport Photo at Home

  1. Background: Stand in front of a plain white wall in a well-lit room. Natural daylight from a window works best — avoid harsh shadows on the background or your face.
  2. Expression: Look directly at the camera with a neutral expression and mouth closed. Eyes must be fully open.
  3. Framing: Your face should fill the centre of the frame. Avoid hats, sunglasses, or anything that obscures your face (medical exceptions apply).
  4. Camera: Any modern smartphone camera set to portrait mode works well. Ask someone else to take the photo — avoid selfies, as the angle is usually wrong.
  5. Upload and size here: Upload the photo above, select your country, use the zoom slider to fill the frame with your face, and drag to centre it perfectly.
